- Where are you from?
I am a Calfornia girl at heart. I was born in Southern California and have lived in Oregon and Washington, as well. I returned to California in 5th grade and have called it home ever since. I love living in San Jose because it is literally in the "center" of everything. - What is your position at Amber?
I am currently the Principal of Primary Plus Elementary School. - How long have you been with ADPP?
I have been with Primary Plus for three years, and am just starting my fourth. My children have been a part of the Action Day family for over eight years now, and I definitely feel at home here. - What is your teaching background and experience?
I graduated from California State University Chico in 1997 with a Multiple Subjects CLAD K-12 Credential. I taught 3rd and 4th grade for 16 years before being asked to be the principal of Primary Plus. I cannot express how excited I am for this next part of my educational journey! - What do you think is special about your ADPP location?
Amber is definitely a family. Everyone - from the teachers, the staff, to the students - truly cares about one another. Our parents are also very supportive of their children and of our program, which helps to create that "family" feel. I feel very lucky to be a part of something so fantastic! - What is your favorite part of the day at Amber?
I love it when I walk by the playgrounds or am in the office and hear students calling out my name just to say "hi." This warms my heart. I defintiely feel loved! - What is the last book you read aloud?
Sofia the First to my daughter Lily before bedtime - one of my favorites! - What is the last book you read to yourself?
How to Raise a Spirited Child, which was very beneficial for my three very independent children at home. - What is the funniest thing a child has said/done at school?
A student recently came into the office and was awestruck by our sick room. She said, "WOW! Look at THIS room!" Clearly, she thinks we are pretty fancy! :) - What do you do in your spare time?
Well, I tend to be VERY busy with three children at home! We are always running here or there to a dance or sporting event, spending time with friends and family. When I do have time, I love to read, shop, get pedicures, and (my guilty pleasure) watch reality television! - What achievement are you most proud of?
The achievement I am most proud of is being asked to be the principal of Primary Plus. I have been an educator for so many years, and feel as though teaching has been my passion. Now, I have the opportunity to enrich the lives of many more students than a single classroom. I feel very proud and very excited about that! - What do you love most about your job?
I love to feel as though I am making a difference. Every day, something happens with a child, parent, or colleague that makes me feel this way. I feel like I have the opportunity to make personal relationships that make coming to work each day something to look forward to. - What should children look forward to doing/learning at Amber?
Children should look forward to having fun! We do have very high expectations, but strive to make learning enjoyable. We will enourage them to do their best and work their hardest, but we will also have a great time and bring their learning to life! - What is the single best piece of advice you can give to parents of elementary school-aged children?
Be present. Be actively involved in the life of your child. Ask them about school, check their homework, eat dinner with them. This will establish an open line of communication and a level of mutual respect that will leave a lasting impression.
