1. Where are you from?
I was born in Daly City but I grew up in San Jose. I currently live in Sunnyvale.
2. How long have you been with ADPP?
I’ve been with Action Day for almost seven years, since August 28, 2000.
3. What is your childcare background and experience?
I’ve been teaching for fourteen years. I started babysitting when I was a teenager. At the age of twenty, I started working in a preschool. I then went to tutor for an after school program. For five years, I rotated between the two year old and three year old classrooms. I took a year off when my first son was born and I went back to work when my second son was born. That’s when I came to Action Day. I wanted to be in a classroom but still be near my kids.
4. What do you like most about your job?
The potty training! The kids may not remember me years from now, but I know I played a part in their lives. That’s the best feeling anyone could ask for.
5. What do you think is special about your ADPP location?
The Moorpark families and staff.
6. What is your favorite part of the day at ADPP?
I love art time and music time. We do a lot of talking at art time and that’s when we do a lot of our learning. I also love be silly and dancing with kids.
7. What is the last book you read out loud?
Good Night Moon to my daughter, Sami.
8. What is the last book you read to yourself?
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Book 6.)
9. What is the funniest thing a child has said/done in your class?
I wouldn’t say it’s the funniest but it’s definitely one of the cutest. One time, two of my kids, out of nowhere, just started singing “I like to move it move it” from Madagascar. The next thing you know, we were all singing and dancing.
10. What do you do in your spare time?
I love to play board games with my boys and dance with my daughter. On a rare occasion, I love to ride the mechanical bull at the Saddle Rack.
11. What achievement are you most proud of?
My three children. They are the best part of me
12. What is the single best piece of advice you can give parents of 2 year olds?
Have lots of PATIENCE. They may be two but you have to back up what you say. If you tell them no, you need to mean no.
13. Do you have any healthy lunch ideas?
When you fix dinner, set aside a small bowl for lunch the next day. Don’t send lots of sweets. Fruits and veggies make great snacks. Frozen Go-gurts make a great dessert.
14. Do you have any potty training tips?
Be CONSISTENT! Don’t do underwear and then go back to Pull-Ups because it’s easier. That actually makes potty training harder for the kids. Take them to potty OFTEN. Always keep extra clothes with you in case of an accident. Remember, they are learning. It’s not always easy so just stay calm when accidents happen.
