1. Where are you from?
I am from San Jose, CA.
2. How long have you been with ADPP?
I have been with ADPP since the beginning of February 2010.
3. What is your position (or positions)
at ADPP?
I am a Kindergarten teacher in the mornings with June Seto as well as the
Cheerleading coach over at WVMS.
4. What is your childcare/teaching background and
experience?
I graduated from San Jose State University with my degree in Child and
Adolescent Development and plan to return to SJSU in the Fall for my
credential and Masters degree. I have worked in many classrooms throughout
the years, but this is my first experience with a private school and I love
it.
5. What do you like most about your job?
I love children! My favorite part about teaching is switching on the “light
bulb” for kids that are having trouble. Seeing their face light up when a
task finally becomes manageable is wonderful!
6. What do you think is special about your ADPP
location (s)?
I think that ADPP is so special because the staff really works together with
everything that they do. I have met so many new people from both Amber as
well as WVMS who have been nothing but helpful and have made me feel
extremely welcome.
7. What is your favorite part of the day
at ADPP?
My favorite part of the day is probably when the day first starts off. It is
so refreshing to see the students run up to you for a “good morning hug”
first thing every day.
8. What is the last book you read out loud?
We shared many books this past week because it was Dinosaur Week at our
school, but I believe the last one that we read aloud was “Walking With The
Dinosaurs” which was brought in by one of the students in my class.
9. What is the last book you read to
yourself?
The last book that I read to myself was “Playing For Pizza: by John Grisham.
10. What is the funniest thing a child has
said/done in your class?
There are so many it is hard to pick just one!
11. What do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time I like to spend time with my friends and
family… particularly in Capitola on the beach!
12. What achievement are you most proud of?
Graduating from SJSU with my degree.
13. What should children look forward to
doing/learning in Kindergarten? In Cheerleading?
In Kindergarten I think that the children should look forward to meeting new
friends! Before a majority of children enter school their friends are chosen
by their parents and Kindergarten is their chance to choose their own
friends and really form their own identities. In Cheerleading I think that
the girls should look forward to learning about the sports that they are
cheering for. You might feel a little silly if you aren’t sure if you are on
offense or defense throughout the whole game!
14. What is the single best piece of
advice you can give parents of Kindergarten? Of Cheerleaders?
Of Kindergarten… to let their children be silly! Of course school is for
learning and being serious SOME of the time, but you cannot forget that we
are still working with five and six year olds who need to be silly! Of
cheerleaders… it is a very dedicated sport that is changing daily. It is
becoming extremely competitive, but can make such a positive impact on a
child’s life.
15. Do you have any healthy lunch ideas?
My favorite healthy snack is celery and peanut butter!
16. Do you have any learning to read
tips?
Practice, practice, practice! I think that it is extremely important that
parents practice with their children at home just how they practice at
school with their teachers.
17. Do you have any Cheerleading tips?
Don’t give up! Sometimes it can be hard and frustrating, but I promise that
it is all worth it in the end!
