1. Where are you from?
I was born in Mountain View. My family moved to Los Gatos when I was in
Middle School. I am a born and raised Californian!
2. How long have you been with ADPP?
My very first day at Primary Plus was August 1, 1989. I feel very old saying
that!
3. What is your position at ADPP?
I am the School Administrator of the Elementary program at the Amber Drive
Campus.
4. What do you like most about your job?
I LOVE our students! We have such great kids here & I look forward to each
and every day with them. The kids make me smile and laugh. Their enthusiasm
for life is simply contagious.
5. What do you think is special about your ADPP
location?
We are blessed with a wide age range of students at Amber. We have students
from 2 years old through 4th grade. Many of the preschool children have
siblings in the elementary program which makes the pick up and drop off easy
for our families, and that’s very special!
6. What is your favorite part of the day
at ADPP?
My very favorite part of the day is when we have children come into the
office with a “Caught Being Good” coupon. The teachers award coupons to
their students when they perform tasks without being asked, then the kids
come into the office to collect a prize for their coupon. I make a big deal
when they come into the office and always give a very loud “WOO HOO” and
congratulate them on a job well done – always urging them to keep up the
good work!
7. What is the last book you read to
yourself?
I’ve been in a Book Club for years; with women I met when my own girls were
in elementary school. Our choice of books for April was The Help, by Kathryn
Stockett. I thought it was a wonderful first novel by the author; her
characters jumped off the page.
8. What is the funniest thing a child has
said/done in your class?
A mom and her Kindergarten daughter were in the office the
other day and the mom had some questions about our summer program. Before we
could respond, her kindergartner said “I don’t want to stay here for the
summer; I want to go to Camp Tiki instead!” I let her know I thought Camp
Tiki sounded like fun, too. Maybe she could go to Camp Tiki and stay with
us, too!
9. What do you do in your spare time?
I love HGTV and the DIY Network! I’m always doing things
around my house and yard, or coming up with ideas for my husband. My
girls will come home sometimes and say “Oh no, you’re at it again”!
10. What achievement are you most proud of?
I am most proud of raising my two beautiful daughters. And, I’m proud to say
they both teach dance for ADPP! They started taking dance at our Coventry
school when they were 2 years old, and fell in love with it! Both danced
competitively all through high school and I’m convinced playing football
wouldn’t have been more difficult than some of the dances they performed!
11. What should children look forward to
doing/learning at Amber?
We have a fabulous academic program here at Amber! More importantly, our
enrichment program - Music, PE, Technology and Spanish instruction - occur
on a weekly basis. All of these are areas other schools are cutting, and we
are proud to include them as part of our curriculum.
12. What is the single best piece of
advice you can give parents of elementary school children?
Parents, its O.K. for your kids to make mistakes! Some of the most important
lessons we learn in life are by making mistakes, picking ourselves up,
brushing ourselves off and starting all over again. It’s a great opportunity
to emphasize how important good choices are. To this day when my kids go out
I still say “make good choices – there are no erasers in life”.
