1. Where are you from?
I was born in Manila, Philippines. I was raised and spoiled by my
grandparents in the Philippines for eight years, then I moved in San Jose
when I was eight years old.
2. How long have you been with ADPP?
I have been with Primary Plus since September 2004.
3. What is your teaching background and experience?
I’ve been working with children for over eight years. Right after high
school I worked as an after-school teacher for a couple of years, then I
became a Recreational Leader for the City of San Jose in college, and now
I’m a happy Junior Kindergarten Teacher and a Summer Princess at Amber
School.
4. What do you like most about your job?
The best part of my job are the 100 hugs from kids daily and using my
creativity to teach. I also have an AWESOME co-teacher (Ms. Anne West) who
inspires and motivates me everyday. I also have supportive co-workers and
administrators.
5. What do you think is special about ADPP location?
The Amber Staff is fun to work and be with. We have wonderful families who
support us, especially the ACC parents who sponsor our school events such as
our Halloween Carnival and End of the Year BBQ. Plus, they help us raise
money for the school..
6. What is your favorite part of the day at ADPP?
My favorite part of the day is singing during circle-time. Although, I don’t
have the best voice, my kids think I’m a good singer. I like to play our ABC
Phonics CD, Fingerplay & Rhyme Songs, and appropriate Kids Bop songs. Kids
just pick up songs so quickly, and it doesn’t make circle-time so boring.
7. What is the last book you read out loud?
“Don’t Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late”
8. What is the last book you read to yourself?
“Sun Signs for Lovers” by Judy Hall
9. What is the funniest thing a child has said/done in
your class?
There are too many to mention. One time a child asked me if I had a
boyfriend and if I’m married and I said, “No.” Then she started to name all
the guy teachers in the school that I could possibly be compatible with, but
I told her, “No, they’re not my type or they’re taken.” She paused for a
moment and then said, “Maybe we should go to my Dad’s work because there are
lots of men there, and you might find your future husband.” This was a four
year old girl trying to be my matchmaker.
10. What do you do in your spare time?
I go out and dance with friends, watch movies, take pictures, and make
poster signs for Office Staff.
11. What achievement are you most proud of?
Making a difference in someone’s life.
12. What should children look forward to doing/learning
in Junior Kindergarten?
We will learn how to add, speak some Spanish, do cooking projects, have
Reading Buddies, go on exciting Field Trips, sing fun songs, dance, go to
P.E. and learn new sports, play fun indoor/outdoor games, and enjoy holiday
parties.
13. What is the single best piece of advice you can give
parents of Junior Kindergarten?
Talk positively about school. If you value education, then so will your
child.
14. Do you have any healthy lunch ideas?
Whole Wheat Pretzels from Trader Joe’s. It’s a yummy snack and they’re
better than Potato Chips. And, kids love them.
15. Do you have any learning to read tips?
Read aloud together with your child and let them choose what they want to
read every so often.
