Bachelor of Arts in English and Theatre from Warren Wilson College

Master of Arts in Education from New York University
Work Experience:
Mrs. Hawkins worked for three years as a professional stage manager for
theatres throughout the Bay Area (SJ Rep, Shakespeare Santa Cruz, and
others). She taught preschool at the APJCC and tutored at the Almaden
Tutoring Club. Mrs. Hawkins recently taught 6th grade Language Arts at
Middle School 51 in Brooklyn, New York.
Goals for the school year:
To help students acquire and master the skills necessary to become
thoughtful readers and writers. I want every student to become comfortable
reading and writing texts of various genres and forms. It is also my goal to
develop in my students joy for reading, writing and exploring texts deeply.
Coursework
6th Grade Curriculum:
Short stories: “Thank You, M’am” by Langston Hughes; “All Summer In a Day”
by Ray Bradbury; “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe. Full length
texts: “The Giver” by Lois Lowry; “The Outsiders” by SE Hinton, “Twelfth
Night” by Shakespeare.
Grammar/Writing: Grammar for Writing (Sadlier)- Level Red
7th Grade Curriculum:
Short Stories: “Thank You M’am” by Langston Hughes; “The Monkey’s Paw” by
W.W. Jacobs; “Masque of the Red Death” by Edgar Allan Poe. Full length
texts: “Holes” by Louis Sachar; “The Devil’s Arithmetic” by Jane Yolen;
“Much Ado About Nothing” by Shakespeare.
Grammar/Writing: Grammar for Writing (Sadlier) – Level Purple
8th Grade Curriculum:
Short Stories: “The Martian” by Ray Bradbury; “The Most Dangerous Game” by
Richard Connell; “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allan Poe. Full length
texts: “Call of the Wild” by Jack London; “Milkweed” by Jerry Spinelli;
“Romeo and Juliet” by Shakespeare.
Grammar/Writing: Grammar for Writing (Sadlier) – Level Yellow
Elective curriculum:
High School Prep:
In High School Prep students study for the High School placement test, write
admission essays, polish interviewing skills and learn to carefully fill out
applications.
Musical Theatre:
This year’s show is TBA, but it is sure to be exciting! This class is
offered to students interested in theatre arts on stage and off.
Special Interests/Hobbies:
Hiking, singing, reading and playing with my four nephews.
