Dear Parents and Staff,
Hello my name is Alisa Dietz and I would like to take an opportunity to introduce myself as the new 5th grade teacher at West Valley Middle School. I have taught elementary aged children for 12 years teaching kindergarten, 2nd grade and 4th. I spent last year working as a private tutor for a special needs 8th grader and am excited to get back into teaching. I have a, Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies, a bachelors of Arts in English Literature and did my elementary ed coursework through Monterey Bay State University. I have also taken classes through Scwabb Learning Institute to help me know how to manage and help children with special needs.
In anticipation for teaching 5th grade I have looked through the
curriculum for this grade and have spent time going through the state
teaching standards as well. I know that 5th graders are working on being
independent learners and that needs to be nutured. I know that they are now
reading to learn versus learning to read as was the case for them in the
younger grades. I also realize that 5th graders are kids and it is fun for
me to use different methods in the classroom to help them to learn science,
math or language arts with a variety of hands on experiences.
