Curriculum Outline - Seventh Grade
Students continue to work on being responsible for their own learning. Students focus on using critical thinking to evaluate other's ideas and develop their own thoughts.
Literature
Fiction, non-fiction, drama, and poetry are explored with
skill development in recognizing imagery, inferring the author's
purpose, and evaluating conflict. Award-winning novels are
used to demonstrate the subtlety of good writing and the many
ways to evaluate such writing.
Language Mechanics
Basic grammar and spelling are used to write correct sentences
within essays, reports, creative writing, and poetry. Students
use figurative language, and descriptive specific vocabulary.
Editing, rewriting, and evaluating written worts are emphasized.
Math
An in-depth study of fractions, decimals, ratio/percent, geometry,
probability and integers. Basic algebra is introduced within
each area.
Social Studies
From ancient Rome to the beginning of modern history, students
study the foundations of Western society with an emphasis
on skills as well as knowledge.
Science
A detailed investigation of the concepts examined in sixth
grade. Chemistry includes physical, chemical, and atomic states
of matter and chemical reactions. Physical science includes
dynamics, basic forces in nature, energy transformation. Life
science analyzes ecosystems and taxonomy.
Enrichment Curriculum
Art focuses on creativity and expression as well as basic art principles
- Physical Education uses team sports to teach advanced motor skills and sportsmanship as well as physical conditioning and exercise
- Spanish emphasizes learning the language in conversation and written form.
