Cassie Liu, 2008 Whiz Kid Nominee for San Jose

Cassie Liu always puts forth her best effort at everything she takes on.
Whether it’s her Language Arts assignment or playing the flute for the
San Jose Youth Symphony, Cassie always gives it her best. Cassie’s
outgoing spirit and positive attitude in addition to excelling at
everything she encounters is what makes Cassie so special. According to
her Language Arts teacher, Mrs. Kathleen Vigil, “She goes above and
beyond at everything she does in addition to her academics which are
always top notch.” As Cassie is busy preparing her high school
applications, Mrs. Vigil is confident Cassie will be at the top of her
class wherever she goes.
The eighth-grade teenager not only excels in the classroom at West
Valley Middle School, Cassie is also a dedicated athlete and musician.
Cassie plays center position for the National Junior Basketball League
in addition to volleyball, cheerleading, and tennis. Additionally, she
loves to play the flute for the San Jose Youth Symphony. When she finds
spare time in her busy schedule, she also plays the piano for fun.
Cassie’s enthusiasm for learning is not only evident in the classroom,
but also at home. Her mother, Cecilia, says “She is very hard working
and stays up late to finish all of her homework. We’ve never had to
worry about her. She has always had great report cards and has been on
the Honor Roll for years.” Her mother also told us that her favorite
subject is History because she loves reading about it. Regarding her
love of History, Cassie says she was inspired by her mother and a
previous History teacher.
Cassie’s father Jie is a software Engineer at Brocade Communications and
her mother Cecilia is a homemaker. Cassie also has a 6 year old brother
named Jeffrey. All are very proud of Cassie for this honor.
